Shops Show Slow Sales
Thursday 24th April 2008

Figures released this week show a 1.6% decline in retail sales in March from the same period last year.

The figures which were lower than expected show the first fall in nearly 2 years and have prompted warnings from the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

The figures are the lowest since July 2005 and highlight the affect that the credit crunch is having on the mindset of the public who are becoming more aware of the dangers of excess spending.

It is thought that retail sells figures will continue to fall in the months leading up to the summer as consumer confidence continues to waver.
