The Medical Journal has this week published findings of new research that suggest that pregnant mothers who are active and more likely to have children who participate in exercise.

The Bristol University-led study looked into the lifestyle of 5,500 11 to 12-year-olds and concluded that parents who exercise during pregnancy are more likely to exercise with their young children and therefore set a good example.

The study shows that patterns set when children are in toddlers and at pre-school can impact how children view exercise in their teenage years and even into adulthood.

The study also showed that children with autumn birthdays are likely to be the sportiest.
