The Canary Islands
For those in need of some winter sun, the Canary Islands is an ideal place to book a holiday and many cheap flights can now be found in order to get the most value for money. The islands are situated off the south-west of Spain and there are thirteen in total. The most popular to visit for a holiday however are Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife and La Palma. One of the most attractive things about the Canary Islands is the consistently warm temperatures and lack of rainfall. From season to season there is very little difference in temperature, with 18 degrees Celsius generally being the lowest and 24 degrees Celsius the highest.
All of the islands are ideal for tourists no matter what you are looking for in a holiday and each has something of interest to offer, meaning that it is impossible to get bored.
A visit to Lanzarote is not complete without going to the ‘Mirador del Rio’, a lookout 479 metres above sea level that offers a unique view of the surroundings. Or for a more urban experience, the former capital, Teguise offers shops, restaurants and architecture for your pleasure.
If you are looking for an island with a bit more of an eclectic feel however, perhaps Gran Canaria will be more suited to your tastes. The main attraction is the cosmopolitan city of Las Palmas which is surrounded by two large beaches. As well as these huge stretches of sand, museums, parks, shops and theatres can all be found in this centre of diversity.
Fuertaventura couldn’t offer any more difference! Lying just 200km away from the Sahara Desert, it boasts some of the best beaches in the Canary Islands. The ideal place to chill-out and admire the beautiful scenery, Fuertaventura is the best place to go for total relaxation.
The beaches of Tenerife are also just as popular, thought they are more suited to water sports and activities, making the atmosphere of the island, a little more lively.
Whatever island in the Canaries you choose to go to, it is guaranteed that you will find something that matches your holiday criteria. With each one offering something unique, it is no wonder that the Canary Islands have swiftly become one of the most popular holiday destinations.
Getting around the islands has been made easy by the reliability and efficiency of the local bus network. However, to see as much of the island as possible, the best mode of transport really is to walk!
Many cheap flights can now be found to any of the Canary Islands, so whether you are after entertaining night life, a relaxing beach holiday or the opportunity to walk around some beautiful unspoilt scenery, it is easier than ever to make a visit to the island of your choice.
