Computer games and consoles
Technology develops quickly, and new, more advanced consoles and games are constantly appearing in the shops. Plenty of enthusiasts trade in old models for the newest thing to stay on the cutting edge, but there are just as many people who like the old consoles best and have fun buying and playing dated games at next to nothing prices. Whether you are looking for latest Playstation, hunting for games such as Halo 3 for your Xbox 360 or on the lookout for a classic such as Mario Cart for your Nintendo - you are bound to find just what you are looking for online.
A lot of console games are available in PC format - if you have a household computer then you may not need a console. Also, computer games have ratings, like films, to protect minors against adult content, so you may be asked for proof of your age when shopping.
Understand the jargon - types of game:
- RPG (role playing games) - Where you play a particular character, and take part in a story.
- ORPG (online role playing game) - As above but multi-player over the internet.
- FPS (first person shooter) - A game played from a first-person perspective, where you don't see yourself, only the barrel of your gun.
- RTS (real time strategy) - Where your adventure occurs in real time - usually involves planning and executing a battle or siege.
- TBS (turn based strategy) - Where players take turns, like in a board game.
There are lots of other types of game - the best way to find out is to visit online gaming forums and magazines, of which there are plenty.
