Contents Insurance
To put it simply - contents insurance UK covers everything in your home not covered by buildings insurance UK. Contents insurance UK provides cover for your possessions inside - and for payment of additional premium - outside your home. Cover is usually offered on a new for old basis – with a few exceptions (most commonly bicycles, clothing and linen). Contents insurance UK cover should provide you with cover for your possessions in the event of:
- Fire
- Explosion
- Damage caused by flooding and/or storms
- Malicious damage caused by intruders or vandals
- Damage caused by escaping fluids, from pipe work in your home.
- Subsidence or landslide - this can often be subject to a much higher excess, be sure to check you policy documentation.
- Vehicle impact damage
- Damage caused by falling trees or branches
- Theft
Many contents insurance UK policies offer automatic accidental damage cover for consumer electronics, for example, your television, video, hi-fi or computer equipment. Full accidental damage cover is usually available as an upgrade on contents insurance too, at a reasonable extra premium.
