Contraceptive Combats Death
Friday 25th January 2008 The contraceptive pill has stopped 100,000 deaths from ovarian cancer figures released this week highlight.
The figures show that the pill has prevented these deaths in the 50 past 50 years and The Oxford University team who conducted the research also predicts that an estimated 30,000 new cases may now be avoided each year.
The study has also led to a call for contraceptives to be more readily available to the public by making it a non prescription drug but rather one that can be purchased over the counter.
The protection that is received from the pill against ovarian cancer is also thought to continue long after the pill has stopped been taken.
