The Death Of the Plastic Bag
Friday 9th May 2008 Two major cities have launched initiatives this week to see the end of plastic bag use in their region with Rugby placing a ban on plastic bags and Bristol handing out free reusable carriers to its shoppers.
It is estimated that over 500,000 plastic bags are used each week in Rugby and more than 200 shops have signed up to take part in the carrier bag ban during the week long trial in June.
Whilst in Bristol groups of environmental campaigners have announced plans to hand out free reusable shoppers to customers in the town in a bid to cut the numbers of plastic bags being used.
It is hoped that more shops around the UK will adopt similar policies in a bid to make the UK plastic bag free.
