Santa Saved This Christmas
Thursday 10th January 2008 The British Retail Consortium released figures this week showing the worst Christmas season retailers have seen for over 3 years.
The figures have caused the Consortium to call for interest rate cuts in order to help alleviate the strain that will be put on retailers through the beginning of 2008 as consumers, it seems continue to rein in their spending.
KPMG have also released figures on the Christmas shopping slum, which show that whilst sales of food and drink, increased in December sales on items such as clothes and footwear fell. Sales of electrical goods and other gift purchases were also low suggesting that Santa too was keeping a watchful eye on his wallet this year.
Stores that have been heavily affected by a slow Christmas include Curry’s, PC World, Land of Leather and Next.
