Tesco Angers The Food Train

Wednesday 7th November 2007

Supermarket chain Tesco has cut off its support to a charity scheme run in the South of Scotland which delivers groceries to the elderly and disabled.

The scheme known as The Food Train is run throughout Dumfries and Galloway and provides a home delivery service to those in need within the community.

The scheme is funded by Dumfries and Galloway Council and NHS Dumfries and Galloway and works simply. The organisers of the Food Train collect shopping lists from their users, drops them off with Tesco staff then collects the shopping a few hours later ready to be home delivered.

A spokesman for Tesco says that the growing popularity of the scheme has made it "unmanageable to continue" angering the people who run Food Train who claim that the customers they work for are receiving terrible customer service from Tesco.
