Tunisia

Set on the northern coast of Africa, Tunisia is a country that has taken a high position on ‘Top Ten’ holidays for many years now. It is divided into the north and the south by the Atlas Mountains and whilst the South has a lot to offer in terms of natural beauty, its location on the threshold of the Sahara desert makes the north much more appealing to the typical tourist. The north is home to thousands of miles of coastline, one of the biggest attractions of this region. There is a lot to do in Tunisia and many cities in the country are well worth a visit and provide an interesting and worthwhile day out. One of the most popular things to do in Tunisia is to take the ‘lezard rouge’, a 1920s train that winds amongst the rugged mountains in Melaoui.

Mahdia also makes for a good day out. The quaint seaside town was once the capital of the country and is rich in history and architecture to keep all minds amused. Other cities of interest include Sousse, Monastir who’s main attraction is a fortress right on the beach and Sfax. Festivals also make up a large part of the Tunisian culture and if you are lucky enough to be in the country whilst one is being held then the locals are sure to welcome you to the celebrations and are guaranteed to persuade you to join in with the music and dancing.

Although many people prefer to holiday in the summer months, this is actually the hottest time of the year to visit the country. Temperatures soar to unbearable heights and it is usually too hot for anybody to go anywhere or even to enjoy the beach. The months between October and May are the best time of the year to go where temperatures range between 12 and 28 degrees Celsius.
