Air Berlin offer budget flights to holiday destinations in the Mediterranean, North Africa, The Canary Islands and most of the major European cities. This company was started back in the late 1970’s and was the first German national airline to be formed in Berlin since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first flight took off from Berlin on April 28th 1979. Since that date the company has gone from strength to strength and has expanded to provide flights to many new locations. In the early part of 2004 Air Berlin acquired a stake in Niki airways owned by Niki Lauda who was the three times Formula One world champion.
